Awards
The Houghton Keweenaw Conservaton District presents two distinct awards
at its annual meeting.
Friend of the District Award
The
Friend of the District Award (FDA) is presented to an individual or group
that has significantly assisted and supported the efforts of the conservation
district. The 2001 FDA award was presented to Michelle Anderson, past
journalist for the keweenawtoday news web site and currently the creator
of keweenawnow.com, a newly developed
keweenaw news web site. Michelle was presented the FDAward for her outstanding
coverage of the activities of the district throughout 2001.
Wildlife Habitat Improvement
Award
The Wildlife Habitat Improvement Award (WHIA) is presented
to an individual or group that through its efforts has demonstrated significant
habitat improvement for wildlife within our district. The 2001 WHIA was
presented to Rich Whiteman for his efforts in creating bat friendly closures
for mine openings on his property.
Award Nominations
Any resident of Houghton or Keweenaw county may nominate an individual
or group for the above awards. Contact the District Executive Director
