Wolf Alliance Speaker at Annual Meeting Nov. 2
The Houghton Keweenaw Conservation District will hold its 51st Annual Meeting on Saturday November 2, 2002 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Finnish American Heritage Center on the campus of Finlandia University. The District promises to provide an interesting and entertaining evening with featured guest speaker Nancy Warren. Nancy Warren is a Speaker Bureau volunteer with the Timber Wolf Alliance, which is a program of the Sigurd Olson Environmental Institute, Northland College in Ashland Wisconsin. Nancy has been giving programs throughout the area for the past seven years. Nancy will provide information about wolves of Michigan and Wisconsin through a thirty-minute slide program followed by a question and answer period. Nancy will also present her collection of wolf items including pelts, tracks, scat and bounties dating back to 1775. Also included in the evening activities will be staff reports from the Conservation District Administrator and Board Chairman, Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) District Conservationist, NRCS Keweenaw Soil Survey Team, and the NRCS Torch Lake Project Manager. Elections to fill two vacant four-year term seats on the District Board of Directors will be held. Candidates this year include: Incumbent Director, Gary Palosaari of Chassell; Interim Director and past Administrator, Tami Anderson of Calumet; Stephen Danis of Trap Rock Valley, Calumet; and Scott Noble of Houghton. A Social Hour begins at 6:00 p.m. followed by dinner, speaker, and meeting at 6:30 p.m. A buffet Dinner will be served featuring Hawaiian Baked Ham. Everyone is invited to attend and children are welcome. Tickets are $12.00 per person and are available by calling the Houghton Keweenaw Conservation District at 482-0214. Reservations are required.
