Stephen
Danis, Calumet
Occupation: Retired, U.S. Army
Resident: Houghton County
Steve Danis has a special
fondness and concern for Houghton and Keweenaw County. He was born and
raised here in the Trap Rock Valley area. Steve graduated from Calumet
High School and then Michigan Tech University with a degree in Forestry.
After graduation Steve served 26 years in the United States Army, part
of that time spent as the director of a high school ROTC program in
North Carolina. Steve returned to the area in 1996 and has since been
interested and concerned about conservation issues that affect our region.
In Steves words: I
have always been interested in our areas natural resources and
the proper use of these resources. I am very interested in serving on
the Houghton Keweenaw Conservation District Board. I believe my background
in forestry would be of great benefit to the District. My extensive
travel experience while serving in the Army, and my knowledge on conservation
issues would also make me a good candidate for a directors seat
on the Board.
Gary Palosaari, Chassell
Incumbent Candidate
Occupation: Dairy Farmer & Electrician
Resident: Houghton County
Gary Palosaari, a life-long
resident of the area resides with his family on their farm near Chassell.
Palosaari and his wife, Teresa, have been active supporters of the District's
activities for many years. Palosaari's agricultural experience provides
a valuable component to our District Board. For more than four years,
Gary held the office of board treasurer. He is also a member of the
local Farm Bureau and has served on the HKCD board of directors for
more than ten years.
Tami Anderson, Calumet
Incumbent Interim Director
Occupation: Administrative Coordinator
Resident: Houghton County
You might recognize Tami
as the past Administrator of the Conservation District where she served
in that position for over two years. Since leaving in April of this
year, Tami has continued to be involved with the district in a couple
of different capacities. Most recently she was appointed by the District
Board to fill the director seat left vacant by departing Chairman, David
Heath. In addition to her duties as an interim director, Tami also continued
her employment with the district on a part-time basis until the Administrator
position could be filled in October.
In Tamis words: "I
would like very much to continue to work with the Conservation District
in the capacity of a board director. I believe that my past experience
as the Administrator/Executive Director of the District makes me uniquely
qualified to serve as an effective board member. My concern for the
wise use of our natural resources in our two county District will make
me an asset to this organization. If elected, I promise I will work
to develop the services of the Conservation District and thereby better
serve the constituents of both Houghton and Keweenaw County."
Scott Daniel Noble
Occupation: Registered Michigan Forester #673
Resident:
Houghton County
As a member of the Copper
Country Community I desire to serve on the Houghton Keweenaw Conservation
District Board in order to assist the district in its efforts to increase
visibility and expand services. I have my M.S. in Forestry from Michigan
Technological University's School of Forestry and Wood Products, and
am currently employed there. Having worked locally with the district
as well as groups such as MTU, the Michigan DNR, the NRCS, Lake Superior
Land, Mead Westvaco, Rossie, and The Otter River Sportsman's Club has
given me valuable professional contacts with which to promote the district's
activities.
I recognize the importance
of visibility for the district, within the community as well as local
governing bodies, and will work to increase awareness of our offerings
as well as needs. I will promote the role of the district as a coalition
builder between businesses, organizations, agencies, and people whom
have involvement and concern with conservation's many aspects. My experience
securing funding through granting agencies will also be of value as
we seek to secure additional resources to support and expand our service
to our community.
