Large tree, reaching heights of 60-85 feet at maturity and long lived. Grows on a variety of sites but prefers those of a basic nature (7+ pH) resulting from the presence of limestone. It can also tolerate spring flooding and related soil saturation. Moderately shade-tolerant and slow growing.
